Raptor
![]() The "Raptor" is an inverted coaster: the riders are suspended below the track. The client requested this attraction be lit brilliantly, but that the look of the ride change as the passengers travel through the "cobra head" turn, which disorients riders by turning them upside down and backwards -- twice. 28 1000-watt outdoor Par 64's, powered with 3 custom 100-amp dimmers, were installed under the turn, interspersed with 28 airport runway approach strobe lights. 1.5 seconds before the train passes through the cobra turn, the pars dim to 5% and the strobe lights create a dramatic and disorienting pattern as the riders are tossed about. As the train exits the turn, the lights slowly return back to full. By dimming these lights instead of turning them on and off 30 times an hour, the lamp life was extended substantially. The coaster is visible for miles. |
